Dan Donelli Qualifications

I am currently a Chief Deputy for the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office, where I have served for 30 years and received the highest honor, the Gold Medal of Valor.  I oversee all of Patrol, Investigations, Drones, SWAT, EOD, K9, Narcotics, Air Operations and the Marine Enforcement Detail. I am responsible for over 600 personnel, and a budget of over $128 million.  I have had the opportunity to command many critical incidents and mutual aid deployments for the region, to include fires, floods and civil unrest. I have served on numerous boards involving behavioral and public health.

Locally, I hold the position of President for the Lake Forest Owners’ Association and Winterhaven Homeowners’ Association. My core responsibilities have centered on safeguarding the well-being of our residents and upholding the visual appeal of our communities. I've prioritized open communication with my community by actively soliciting feedback through various social media channels. I have facilitated and spoke at various Town Hall meetings in El Dorado Hills on the topic of crime and safety.

Community Engagement/Leadership

In addition to serving as the President of the Lake Forest Owners’ Association and Winterhaven Homeowners’ Association, my passion for the future of the community is evident in my ongoing involvement in coaching and mentoring youth sports in El Dorado Hills. My continued involvement underscores my dedication to fostering a safe, supportive, and thriving community with an emphasis on the future leaders of El Dorado Hills. I am excited for the opportunity to bring my expertise and passion for service to this position, ensuring that our firefighters have the resources available to continue their mission of protecting and serving our community.

Over 30 Years in Public Service

I have served with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office since 1994. Throughout this time, I have promoted through the ranks of Deputy, Detective, Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and now Chief Deputy. I have been blessed with many assignments including Corrections, Patrol, Problem Oriented Police Officer, CSI, Narcotics Detective, SWAT, Folsom Dam Bureau Supervisor, Internal Affairs, Tactical Commander and Special Operations Commander. I have worked closely with our fire partners on large scale events such as fires, floods and civil unrest. I am extremely grateful to have had such a successful and diverse career, and look forward to bringing the skillset and knowledge I have gained to this Board position. I understand what it takes to successfully run a large organization.

Where I Came From

I was born in Parma, Italy. My family moved to the United States in 1978 to realize the “American Dream.” I attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, then Christian Brothers High School. I began working at the age of 13 and became involved in my career at the age of 18. My family, like many other immigrants to the United States, were extremely hard working and modest. This hard work and sense of purpose was a great example, and has guided me throughout my life. I am extremely grateful for the blessings that I have received as an immigrant, and feel drawn to serve my community as a result.
